Pradeep Thakran, the founder of Ranchpal, blends his agricultural roots with over two decades of experience in technology and business development. Hailing from an agricultural community, he understands the challenges faced by farmers, drawing upon firsthand experiences to drive innovation in dairy farming. With an engineering background and an MBA, Pradeep is uniquely positioned to spearhead Ranchpal’s mission to transform the industry through advanced technology solutions.

Pradeep introduced the startup and their plans.

How did you come up with the idea to create a startup?

“We came up with the idea for Ranchpal after witnessing the inefficiencies and challenges faced by dairy farmers. Inspired to make a meaningful impact, we set out to develop a solution that addresses these pain points and drives positive change in the industry.”

What have been the biggest challenges/failures and the biggest wins so far?

“Our biggest challenge has been overcoming the traditional mindset prevalent in the farming community and convincing farmers to embrace technology. However, our biggest wins have come from the tangible impact we’ve made on the farms that have adopted Ranchpal, improving productivity, reducing costs, and promoting sustainability.”

What sets your startup apart from competitors?

“What sets Ranchpal apart from competitors is our holistic approach to farm management, combining real-time monitoring, AI-driven insights, and proactive decision support. We empower farmers with actionable recommendations tailored to their unique needs, driving efficiency and success.”

Where do you see your startup in 1 year? And where in 5 years?

“In one year, we envision Ranchpal expanding its reach and impact, serving more farmers and enhancing our platform with new features with revenue crosses a million euros. In five years, we aim to be a global leader in agritech, transforming the way animal farming is practiced worldwide.”

Who is the next (Estonian) unicorn?

“We believe it could emerge from the thriving ecosystem of innovative startups at Tehnopol, fuelled by visionary founders and breakthrough technologies. If we have to name one, then eAgronom comes in mind.”

Which books/podcasts/publications and influencers in your field do you follow and would recommend to other aspiring entrepreneurs? 

“In terms of resources, we regularly follow publications like Dairy Global. In the agricultural sphere, “The Future of Food” by Amanda Little offers valuable perspectives on the intersection of technology and food production. Additionally, podcasts like “Agri-Tech Tomorrow” and publications such as “AgFunder News” provide invaluable industry insights and updates. In tech sphere “The Lean Startup” by Eric Ries for its insights into building successful startups in the tech industry. In terms of influencers, individuals like Sara Menker, founder of Gro Intelligence, and Jack Bobo, CEO of Futurity, offer thought-provoking perspectives on the future of agriculture and technology integration.”

If you’d get a chance to meet with Elon Musk, Mark Zuckerberg, and Jeff Bezos, what would you ask them?

“I would ask them about their strategies for scaling disruptive technologies and fostering innovation in traditional industries, seeking insights to propel Ranchpal’s growth and impact.”
